Eddy current testing is different from other non-destructive testing methods in one important respect: the equipment used, in particular, the probes, is specific to the inspection task. Eddy current testing is therefore inherently flexible. In order to get the best results, it is vitally important to choose the optimum equipment for each task.
MiniDrive 40A100-M: Rotating Eddy Current Probe Drive
The MiniDrive is a small, lightweight, rotating eddy current probe drive. It has been designed to allow fast and accurate inspection of fastener holes in confined spaces. The MiniDrive’ s lightweight design (only 150 g/5 oz.) minimizes operator fatigue when inspecting a large number of fastener holes. Operating at a range of speeds from 600 rpm to 3000 rpm, over a frequency range of 200 kHz to 3 MHz, the MiniDrive offers the flexibility needed to satisfy a wide range of inspection requirements.

What is Eddy Current testing?
- Eddy Current testing is the use of electromagnetic induction to detect and characterize surface and sub-surface flaws in conductive materials
- Eddy current sensors sense displacement and are formed when a changing magnetic field intersects a conductor
- Probes sense the change and find out the distance between the probe and the test material
- Electric current is induced into the test subject and the change in the current is noticed and determines a fault. There will be a corresponding change in the phase and amplitude of the signal that is measured.
- Eddy Current can measure metal thickness so erosion or metal thinning can be detected
- Eddy current is one of six methods of NDT testing: eddy current, magnetic-particle, liquid penetrant, radiographic, ultrasonic, visual testing
